Workshops & Inservices
The Institute offers a variety of award-winning presentations for educators. The presentations feature multimedia, useful handouts, sample publications, giveaways, time for breakout sessions and Q&A periods, and a high level of enthusiasm. Participants will leave the workshops or inservices with great ideas that they can use immediately in the classroom.
At Eureka, elementary and middle school educators gather to learn not only from each other, but also from other experts in the field of ancient studies. The focus is on pedagogical excellence in teaching about the ancient world. Presentations and activities at Eureka 2012 will focus on ancient Roman civilization - from politics and family to hobbies and mythology. Other cultures, including ancient Greece, Egypt, Mesoamerica, and Japan, may be included.

An innovative and unique teacher workshop designed to encourage up to fifteen
Maryland elementary- and middle-school educators (non-Latin teachers) to weave Latin and Classical Studies into their curricula. This workshop will demonstrate how Latin and Classical Studies can easily be integrated into the classroom setting, particularly in response to the Maryland State Curriculum and Core Learning Goals.
The workshop will provide an opportunity for educators to learn about Latin, ancient
Roman culture, and effective methods for incorporating these topics into their classrooms. It will also demonstrate to the participants that the study of Latin supports students' study of English vocabulary and grammar, other world languages, and their knowledge of the roots of Western civilization.

Recent Workshops
This presentation will focus on how Latin teachers and students can explore the perspectives and products of the ancient Romans as revealed in their daily life and culture. It will emphasize ways to integrate the study of culture into the study of language. Mr. Webb will share ideas, materials and resources for Latin and English readings as well as for creative and hands-on projects, several of which incorporate technology. Among them are curricular units that examine the perennial influence of Roman culture, particularly mythology, on subsequent art and literature.
